GAT Teacher Training for Schools (2 day course)

Who should attend?

This course is appropriate for current and future secondary GAT teachers, coordinators and school leaders who want an understanding of gifted and talented education in order to design programming and strategies for advanced classes. This course includes all aspects of the entry-level Gifted and Talented Professional Learning Modules (developed by GERRIC with DEEWR) as well as up-to-date research, strategies and time for practical planning.


What to expect:

Day One

  • What do we mean by gifted and talented and what are the characteristics of these students?

  • How GAT students are selected and the impact of this on GAT classes and teaching strategies.

  • Underachievement (including twice-exceptional) and strategies to identify and manage this.

Day Two

  • Designing challenging learning experiences for gifted and talented students, included questioning, differentiation, high order thinking, and assessment (pre, formative and off-level).

  • Designing program options for gifted and talented students, including grouping, acceleration options, and compacting, mentoring and alternative options.
